For Maple's first Valentine's Day at home, I wanted to bake some love & PB filled goodies. Let me start off by saying that while I consider myself a decent home cook, baking is not my jam. I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of this recipe and how fun it was to make. I adapted mine from a few recipes that I found online to create this DIY cuteness.

Heart-Shaped Dog Macarons
Time investment: 25 min
Makes: 8 Macarons
Serving Size: 1 per day as treat OR share with all your friend's dogs
Supplies:
1 Large Egg
2 Tbs. Bone Broth (I use low-sodium Beef)
1/2-2/3 Cup Flour (I use wheat flour)
1-3 Tbs. Beet Juice based on desired color (make sure this is 100% beet juice with no citrus additives, I picked some up from local juice shop, Soup Peddler)
3 Tbs. Peanut Butter (ensure the PB is Xylitol free and dog safe before using!)
Plastic Storage Bag or Piping Bag
Parchment Paper
Optional: Macaron or baking mat
Cookie Sheet
Mixing Bowl
Whisk
Spatula
Butter Knife or Spreader
How-to:
Preheat your oven to 350º F. While it is preheating, add egg and bone broth into bowl and whisk until combined well. Add in 1/2 c. flour in small amounts and whisk thoroughly between additions. Once combined add 1 Tbs. of beet juice and whisk until mixed. Add additional beet juice until desired color is reached. Consistency should be slightly tacky but fluid and you may need to add some additional flour if it is too runny.
Line cookie sheet with optional macaron mat and/or parchment paper.
Using your spatula, scrape sides and all batter to one side of the bowl. Roll bag down and pour/spatula batter into bag's corner. Snip a small corner piece from the bag creating a piping hole. Pipe 2"(ish) hearts in rows of 4 on the parchment covered cookie sheet. I found it easiest to draw the heart outline first and then fill it in. Tap the cookie sheet on your counter a few times to disperse any air bubbles or unevenness.
Once oven is preheated, place sheet on middle rack and bake for 5 minutes. Cool on rack before filling. While the cookies bake and cool, get your peanut butter ready. I added 2 tsp. of beet juice and a 1/2 Tbs. of flour to mine for a pinkish hue, but this is optional. When cookies are cooled, spread PB or PB mixture between two similarly shaped hearts and, voilà, you have doggie macarons for your best Valentine.
Before feeding anything new to your dog, ensure that you are using dog safe ingredients and checking with your vet to be safe.
How'd your hearts turn out!?
